Deborah “Debbie” Jane Russell, age 75, of Wadsworth, OH, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Debbie was born March 1, 1949, to William Gordon and Ruth Ann (Austin) Robey, in Canton, OH. After Debbie graduated from Perry High School in 1967, she went on to study at The Ohio State University where she graduated in 1971 with a degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy. Debbie worked for a school system in Stark County for several years before starting a family. Once her children were in school she worked for Montville Twp, Medina County OH in the zoning office, becoming their zoning inspector. Debbie retired in 2013 as the Watershed Coordinator for the Chippewa Subdistrict of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District. Debbie married the love of her life, Jay C Russell, on September 6, 1970, and were longtime residents of Medina, OH, before recently moving to Wadsworth. Debbie was a member of the Milton Presbyterian Church in Rittman, OH. Some of her hobbies include tole painting, reading, bird watching, baking wonderful pies (especially pumpkin), and making apple butter with family and friends, as well as spending Summers at their family cottage at Jack Lake, Apsley, Ontario. Debbie loved the outdoors, and she enjoyed many years of rowing with the Portage Lakes Rowing Club. Most of all Debbie loved her family. It wasn’t uncommon for a friend to be included as part of the family since Debbie was so sweet natured and loved by all who met her. Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, William Gordon and Ruth Ann Robey, and Sister-In-Law Anita S. Neutzling. She is survived by her husband Jay C Russell, to whom she will have been married for 54 years this September 6th; daughters Sara Williamson of Penrose CO, and Amanda (Mike) Cramer of Wadsworth, OH; three granddaughters Summer Williamson, Samantha Williamson, and Merida Cramer. Also surviving are her two brothers David Robey, and Michael (Connie Dumoulin) Robey; cousins Melinda Janko, Daniel Robey and Jeffery Robey; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 5 at 11 AM at Milton Presbyterian Church, 250 North St, Rittman OH 44270. Friends may call at 10 AM on Saturday, October 5 at the church.
